There is no single watering schedule for every plant. Sunlight, temperature, container size, soil type, and growth stage all affect how quickly water is used.
Check the soil first
Feel the top few centimetres of soil. If they are dry and the plant needs moisture, water slowly until the root zone is wet. For pots, let excess water drain away. Avoid leaving roots sitting in a saucer of water.
Look for patterns
Wilting can indicate dry soil, but it may also happen in intense afternoon heat or when roots are waterlogged. Inspect the soil before adding more water. Young seedlings usually need closer attention than established plants.
